My Sister's Keeper

My Sister's Keeper
Over the summer I read My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult and overall I thought it was a great book that always made me want to keep reading more. This book was about a young girl named Kate who was diagnosed with Leukemia at 2 years old. Her family does all they can to try and help her out during this hard time. Kate's sister, Anna, was a perfect donor for anything she would need such as bone marrow or blood transplants if her blood level was low. Kate's family spent most of their time in the hospital with her to keep her company considering she could never leave due to all the chemotherapy she had to go through. Throughout the book the doctors figure out that somebody from the family would need to give Kate a kidney because there was something wrong in one of hers and the doctors didnt want anything else to go wrong. Kate's parents suggest that they use Anna because she was most closely related to Kate. Anna did not like this idea at all. She wanted to do all she could to help her sister live, but the pain she knew she would have to go through a lot of pain, and she didn't want that for the rest of her life. Anna decides to sue her parents for any future medical work that needs to be done to keep Kate living. This creates a lot of tension between everyone in the family because they want the best for Kate and Sara, Kate's mom, did not like this decision at all. However the dad saw where Anna was coming from because  she would have to go through a lot of pain and she wouldn't be able to play hockey anymore with one kidney. You will have to read this book and see what the judges decide to do with Anna's case and see if Kate can survive Leukemia.

People who would like this book would be people who enjoy suspense, not knowing what is going to happen next. It seems like in every chapter there was some kind of twist or something that you weren't expecting to happen that happens which makes you want to keep reading. I would also give this book a 5 star rating because it has to do with real life situations that actually happen today which some families could relate to. They realize it can happen to anyone at anytime. The style of writing is each character has their own chapter of thoughts actions towards Kate. This made it easier to understand how each character interacted with Kate.
